Chris Brown is suing the producers of Investigation Discovery’s Chris Brown: A History of Violence, claiming the show spreads false and damaging information about him.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Brown has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample, and others involved. He says they released defamatory claims despite being shown proof that their story was false.
Brown argues that the woman featured in the series, known as Jane Doe, has been discredited multiple times. He also insists he has never been found guilty of any sex-related crimes and criticizes the show for calling him “a serial rapist and a sexual abuser.”
The lawsuit states that the docuseries is based on a lawsuit Jane Doe filed against Brown, which she later dropped, claiming it was filled with lies. Brown accuses the producers of ignoring facts to damage his reputation, which he says he has worked hard to rebuild.
He acknowledges his past, including his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, but says he has taken responsibility and changed. He claims the series is using his past mistakes for profit and attention.
Brown says the documentary has hurt his career, reputation, and business opportunities. He is seeking $500 million in damages and plans to donate part of it to victims of sexual abuse if he wins.
Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Experts say it will be tough for Brown to win the case. To prove defamation, he must show the producers knew the claims were false or ignored the truth. Many believe he may be hoping for a settlement, but it’s unclear if Warner Bros. Discovery will settle or fight the lawsuit.
