Asked by reporters about whether he would consider wearing a bulletproof vest following the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, President Donald Trump said he couldn’t “handle” appearing as though he had gained weight.
The exchange occurred as Trump addressed reporters at the White House. One reporter asked, “Is there talk about wearing a bulletproof vest going forward?”
“I don’t know if I can handle looking 20 pounds heavier,” Trump said, prompting laughter from those nearby.
Security concerns surrounding Trump have intensified after Cole Allen, a California resident, discharged a firearm at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last weekend in Washington, D.C.
Trump was present at the gathering with the first lady and cabinet members, all of whom were quickly evacuated when gunfire rang out. No casualties were reported and authorities have taken the shooter into custody.
The bulletproof vest conversation emerged amid widespread speculation from viewers who believed Trump was wearing a diaper during his recent CBS’s “60 Minutes” appearance, reports the Mirror US.
During Trump’s sit-down with Norah O’Donnell, audiences noticed a conspicuous protrusion from the president’s suit jacket. Social media users on X immediately began theorizing that it was caused by a diaper, though others suggested it could be protective body armor.
Singer Bill Madden wrote on X, “Trump, sitting during his 60 Minutes interview, shows not only how morbidly obese he has become, but that he wears a very thick adult diaper.”
“That’s what happens when you’re on a McDonald’s diet and have incontinence,” another X user added.
“Dang, the diaper has its own zip code. It could probably stop a bullet,” a third joked.
One commenter offered a different theory for the visible bulge.
“My guess is he is wearing a bulletproof vest underneath his suit,” the person said.
A second account agreed. “It’s the bottom part of a bulletproof vest,” they wrote. “Presidents wear them constantly now after multiple assassination attempts – regardless of party.
“It’s clearly a vest in sitting position – the suit bunches up exactly like that. Totally normal with his size (6’3″). Not a conspiracy,” they added.
