Let’s start with Benny (Benito Skinner). First of all, he’s literally a white version of Alex Claremont-Diaz. Like, give this man a Twitter stan account already—he probably runs five. From quoting Lorde like she’s scripture to jamming to Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” in the middle of emotional breakdowns, he’s an icon. A messy icon, but an icon nonetheless.
And can we talk about the music? When “Vroom Vroom” by Charli XCX came on, I nearly floated out of my chair. Every episode sounded like a 2014 Tumblr playlist had a baby with Glee. Nostalgia hit HARD. Especially with all the 2010s references—30-year-olds playing college kids? We’re so back.
But beyond the glitter and chaos, the show really hits emotionally. Benny’s internal struggle with accepting his sexuality felt raw. The scene where he lies (again) just to fit in? Heartbreaking. And his bond with Carmen? It’s the definition of wholesome. She gets him. The weird, chaotic, messy parts of him—and never judges.
Also, random shoutout to Hailee for being totally unfiltered and hilarious. Every line she delivers feels like a tweet I’d bookmark for therapy later.
But seriously, this ending??? No closure on Miles, no clarity on Benny’s feelings, and Carmen just stuck in the middle? Netflix, you owe us a SEASON TWO.
