John Cena breaks down Peacemaker season 2’s dance routine: “The energy was unmatched”

In the streaming era, skipping TV intros is second nature for most viewers. But occasionally, an opening sequence is so irresistible that it demands to be watched every time. “Peacemaker,” which premiered in 2022, is one of those rare shows. The unforgettable dance routine set to Wig Wam’s “Do You Wanna Taste It,” featuring John Cena and the cast, became an instant fan favorite. For Season 2, the show aims to recreate that magic with a brand-new song and choreography. Once again, Charissa Barton, wife of “Creature Commandos” star Alan Tudyk, takes the helm as choreographer.

John Cena, in an interview with Steve Weintraub for his new series “What Drives You,” shared insights about the new opening sequence. Reflecting on Season 1, Cena admitted initial doubts about the dance number’s success:

I will say filming the dance number in Season 1, even though it was written in the script the whole way through, so I knew months out we were going to film it, you still kind of scratch your head, like, ‘Is this going to work?’

However, the resounding success of the first intro dispelled any skepticism. Cena revealed that enthusiasm for the Season 2 routine was palpable on set:

Then, when it became such a part of the show, I think everybody this time was just so excited, and I really think that’s going to show. I’m very happy with it. I want to say so much more, but I’ll just say I’m very happy with it. Everyone was super enthused and also understood how important it is this time around, and I really hope that shows. I know the show is great. In my mind, the opening number is great. I hope the world agrees.

Creating a standout opening sequence takes more than just the cast’s commitment. Cena highlighted the collaborative effort involved:

It’s just a nice way to introduce everybody and also give everybody credit. I tip my hat to James Gunn. It does take a village, and gosh, we got so many heroes behind the camera. They should get a tip of the cap, too. So, it’s a great way to thank everybody for putting a whole lot of effort into making something good.

As with Season 1, James Gunn, the creator and showrunner, played a pivotal role in shaping the unique identity of “Peacemaker.” By blending quirky humor with heartfelt moments, Gunn ensures the show stands out in the crowded superhero genre. Cena expressed his admiration for the team’s behind-the-scenes efforts, emphasizing their importance in bringing Gunn’s vision to life.

With an eight-episode run, fans are eager to see how the show balances its past roots in the DCEU with the evolving landscape of Gunn’s DCU. Cena remains confident, assuring viewers that the wait will be worthwhile thanks to Gunn’s dedication to perfection.
