The Monkey (2025) Quotes & Short Review

Based on Stephen King’s short story, The Monkey dives into the eerie tale of twin brothers Hal and Bill (played by Christian Convery and Theo James), who uncover a wind-up toy monkey in their attic. At first, it seems like just another childhood relic, but when people around them start dying, they realize it’s far from innocent. No matter how many times they try to get rid of it, the monkey always finds its way back. Years later, after another tragic loss, they must finally face the terrifying truth—this thing isn’t done with them yet.

The film takes viewers on a ride through decades of fear, as Hal and Bill struggle to escape the monkey’s deadly grip. But how do you destroy something that decides who lives and who dies? With each twist, the brothers are forced to confront the sinister force that has haunted them since childhood—before it’s too late.

The Monkey (2025) Short Review

This one was… interesting. The monkey’s rules were kinda murky, and some moments left me confused—like, who was that dude with the black hair covering his eyes? Why was he so obsessed with the monkey? He kept talking about how it reminded him of his father, but that didn’t seem to go anywhere. Felt like there were pieces missing.

Elijah Wood, Laura Mennell, and Theo James in The Monkey (2025)

The acting was solid, and I actually enjoyed the humor. Some of the funeral cutaways had me laughing when I probably shouldn’t have. It’s that kind of movie—you’ll either vibe with its dark comedy or find it tonally weird. I liked the tension in the first half, but the third act got a little too cartoonish for my taste, losing the eerie edge it had before.

That said, I get why some people love it. It leans into the absurdity and delivers some fun, gory horror moments. If you’re into over-the-top horror with a streak of dark humor, you’ll probably have a good time. If you were hoping for a serious, slow-burn psychological horror, this ain’t it.

It kinda felt like Final Destination meets Evil Dead, but with a cursed monkey. Not a bad time, but not a great one either. I’m landing on 3/5. 🐵🥁🔪🔥
