Country singer Alexis Wilkins sparked a wave of backlash online after weighing in on the ICE shooting in Minnesota that killed Renee Nicole Good, with her social media commentary quickly drawing sharp criticism and heated responses.
Wilkins, who is dating FBI Director Kash Patel, identifies herself as a “political commentator” on X alongside her music career and has regularly shared opinions on national issues. Following the Minnesota shooting, she responded to a post from Geraldo Rivera stating that Good was unarmed. Wilkins reshared the post and wrote, “Geraldo, she was armed with a CAR.”
She later posted screenshots of statements from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Frey’s message called for ICE to “get the (expletive) out of Minneapolis,” while Walz pledged a “full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.”
“Minnesota’s leadership encourages disobedience and violence against law enforcement — which breeds situations such as George Floyd and Renee Nicole Good,” Wilkins wrote. “This is on your @MayorFrey @GovTimWalz.”
The posts prompted an immediate flood of reactions.
“And where’s this call to violence?” one user replied.
“Are you really this dumb?” another wrote. “George Floyd was killed as everyone in the nation watched. This is what happens when ego-driven men are given power and inadequate training. Your BF is constantly making serious mistakes; he is not qualified for this job. I would keep my mouth shut.”
“Alexis, you are disgusting and pathetic,” another commenter wrote. “Your comments are unfounded. People like you & your ugly googled eyed boyfriend are what is wrong with this country led by the felon, fraud, liar, narcissist, psychopath, sexual assaulter Donald Trump.”
“You’re a terrible person and a worse singer,” another added.
Those were among the milder responses. Several comments went further, using slurs and personal attacks against Wilkins.
At the same time, some users came to her defense.
“Alexis is right she was armed with a car,” one supporter replied. “She was trying to impede law enforcement. A vehicle is a deadly weapon. Mayor should be impeached for his outrageous comments before any investigation!”
Wilkins, 27, was last in the spotlight in November after MS Now reported that Patel had arranged a security detail for her. According to the outlet, the detail consists of elite agents typically assigned to the FBI’s Nashville SWAT team, where Wilkins lives and works, as is common for many country music artists.
“Ms. Wilkins is receiving a protective detail because she has faced hundreds of credible death threats related to her relationship with Director Patel, whom she has been dating for three years,” an FBI spokesperson told The Hill. “Out of respect for her safety, we will not be providing additional details.”
MS Now reported that using SWAT agents for a protective detail is “unusual,” noting that previous FBI directors’ spouses who received protection lived with the director. Wilkins and Patel do not live together and reside in different cities, fueling further controversy online.
“There is no legitimate justification for this,” former senior FBI agent Christopher O’Leary told MS Now. “She is not his spouse, does not live in the same house or even the same city.
“I would also add that this comes at a time when security details were stripped from people who are under threat from (Iran).”
Taste of Country has reported that Wilkins and Patel have been dating since 2023, first meeting at a ReAwaken America event. According to the outlet, the relationship largely stayed out of public view until Wilkins appeared behind Patel when he was sworn in as FBI director in February.
