What a promising first episode! The show Smoke is finally here, and I’m impressed. One question, though: where were the fire sprinklers in those stores? š¤ I loved the fire shots, and it’s another great show from Apple TV+. It’s a different kind of role for Taron Egerton, and he’s so good at it. So far so good.
FYI, this show is based on a true story, and the case is covered really well in a podcast called Firebug. For any of my other true crime podcast listeners š§, you’ll love it! The smoke 2025 show gives us a hypnotic plunge into a world of hidden arsonists, and itās a brilliant cat-and-mouse game.
My Rant – Smoke: They Are Absolutely F*cking Insane!
Is Captain Steven mentally ill and unhinged? I canāt believe it! The whole family show in the kitchen was so creepy. It showed his psychotic side and was just craaaaay craaay. And the biggest shock? The end of the episode where he set fire to the house of the man who interviewed him. Heās absolutely insane! Like, you didnāt even answer a single question and still wanted him to hire you? What?!

Iām embarrassed to admit I didnāt see that coming š¤¦š»āāļøš³ The black dude’s story is the best, and I loved Adina Porter’s participation too. Oh my god, I had a feeling, I swear when he was so angry I thought maybe he’s the other arsonist and boom, he is! Thatās crazy though. I hate that bastard Dave enough, but torching the trailer with the dogs in it was too far. Heās checked two corners of the MacDonald TriangleāPyromania and Cruelty to animals. Number three is bed wetting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that weirdo does that as well.
And then she kills him! What a fucked up twist! She just stood there and watched him die! What a messed up twist! She is so screwed! She forgot that he switched to filterless cigarettes, and she just left her DNA on the tip of that cigarette! Duh, the one thing she forgot to pull off and take with her was the filter. They will also find out that he was dead before the fire started because they wonāt find any smoke in his lungs.
Best Quotes from Smoke
This show is a masterclass in psychological tension. It’s a slow burn that shows you the darkness hiding in plain sight. Here are some of the most chilling and memorable lines.

Why These Quotes Hit Hard
Smoke is a gripping crime drama television miniseries created by Dennis Lehane, and it was inspired by the Firebug podcast about the crimes of arsonist John Leonard Orr. The show takes elements from the true story, but its characters and events are entirely fictional. Reviews praise the careful writing and grounded performances, with critics at The Guardian calling it “mesmerizing.”
This is a show that explores how trauma can turn people into the worst versions of themselves. Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett have a great chemistry as two people who know how to read other human beings better than most people. Their performances are so good that they hold the show together, even with all of its twists and turns.

Final Rant & Call to Action
Is the captain alive? Or is he a ghost in her head? Did he die in that motel room when he threw the lit cigarettes and caused a fire or something? I am so curious to know why we get the twist now! And I donāt know why she didnāt take a copy of the video of Espositoās video and show Daveās boss as well as her superiors! Hahahaha, Dave is going to pin all his arsons on her and the cops are going to buy it because of her history. She’s so fucked.
I’m so invested in this show. I love that itās based on a true story, and I am so curious to see how it all plays out.
What about you? What are your theories? Do you think the captain is alive? And what about Michelleās mistakes? Do you think she’s going to get caught? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
