House Democrat files move to impeach Pete Hegseth over Trump’s “illegal war” claims

A House Democrat on Monday announced her intentions to introduce articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over the war in Iran.

Rep. Yassamin Ansari posted on X that Trump’s recent threats to strike civilian infrastructure in Iran if the regime does not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, combined with Hegseth’s refusal to stop the president, inspired her move.

Trump is escalating a devastating, illegal war, threatening massive war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran,” Ansari posted. “In the last 48 hours alone, the rhetoric has crossed every line. Pete Hegseth is complicit.”

“I’ve called for the 25th Amendment and am introducing Articles of Impeachment against Hegseth,” she added.

Ansari’s comments came at a time when the Trump administration is facing mounting criticism for its handling of the war in Iran. The conflict began roughly five weeks ago after the U.S. and Israel coordinated bombing strikes that killed several of Iran’s top military and political leaders. Iran retaliated by striking several U.S. military bases and closing the Strait of Hormuz, a move that has sent global energy prices skyrocketing.
