Starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, Companion tells the story of a couple, Iris and Josh, who head off with friends to a remote cabin for a weekend away.
However, things take a shocking turn when it’s revealed that Iris is actually an AI robot, part of Josh’s twisted scheme. Without spoiling too much, it’s a cautionary tale about playing god with technology. Ever heard of Terminator? Clearly, some people haven’t!
Best Quotes from Companion (2025)
There have been two moments in my life when I was happiest. The first was the day I met Josh. And the second the day I killed him. — Iris
Josh made her happy—until he didn’t. After everything Iris endures, it’s hard not to sympathize with her.

“Just relax. Remember to smile and act happy.”
— Josh
Josh’s words aren’t comforting Iris; they’re instructing her. That distinction makes this quote all the more chilling.
“Did you jailbreak your sex bot?”
— Eli
A little crude but straight to the point. Eli calls it like he sees it, and honestly, it’s disturbing to think about.
“The days of you controlling me are over.”
— Iris
Once Iris realizes the truth, she’s done playing Josh’s game. Now, the roles are reversed.
“Are you breaking up with me?” “It’s not you. It’s me.”
— Josh & Iris
A classic breakup line, but given the circumstances, it lands with a whole new meaning.
“My friends don’t hate you.” “Kat does.” “Yeah, maybe. But Kat hates everybody.”
— Josh & Iris
Iris is aware of how she’s perceived, and Josh tries to downplay it. But let’s be honest—Kat might be onto something.
“It’s not that I don’t like you, Iris. It’s the idea of you. You make me feel so replaceable.”
— Kat
Kat voices a very real fear—AI replacing humanity. The existential dread is real.
“You’re a robot.” “You’re joking.”
— Josh & Iris
The moment of truth. But even Iris can’t believe it at first.
“Uh, what are you doing? Shut her down already.”
— Kat
Kat doesn’t trust Iris for a second, and honestly? She might be the smartest one in the room.
Companion (2025) Short Review
Female rage is alive and well! Imagine Black Mirror meets Ready or Not—that’s Companion in a nutshell. It’s a wild ride, and I highly recommend going in blind. I avoided trailers, and the shock factor hit even harder.

Throughout the movie, I kept thinking, “Wow, men are LOSERS.” Jack Quaid’s character, in particular, deserved all my hate. Companion brings up important conversations about autonomy, respect, and who (or what) we extend those to. It also subtly ties into discussions about the “male loneliness epidemic.”
But don’t get me wrong—this movie is also hilarious. Sophie Thatcher and Harvey Guillén steal the show, and the color palette makes everything visually stunning. Josh, go to sleep had me gagged. And when Josh said, “Iris, go to sleep”followed by Eli saying the same to Patrick? Double gag. This is easily one of the best robot movies in a while—an absolute must-watch!
