Bethesda removes Indiana Jones scene after accusations it mocked Charlie Kirk

Following the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s new DLC, Order of Giants, Bethesda appears to have removed an X post from September 14 that featured a clip of Indy petting a cat while saying, “you don’t care much about those fascists, do you?” Given the post’s timing shortly after the fatal shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk on September 10, some online users interpreted it as a reference to the Turning Point USA founder, sparking a backlash.

The now-deleted clip, captioned “good kitty,” seems to have been part of the DLC’s post-launch social media campaign. Bethesda’s official X account has consistently shared seven- to fifteen-second posts and images promoting the action-adventure game’s DLC since its launch, suggesting that this clip was likely part of that broader effort. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, during the era of Hitler and Mussolini’s fascist regimes.

Screenshots from the video have circulated widely across platforms like X, Facebook, and TikTok following its deletion. Some online users connected the post to Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10. However, since it appears to have been part of a larger promotional rollout, it is most likely that the timing was coincidental and the post was not intended to reference Kirk.

Political tensions on social platforms such as X and Bluesky have been heightened since the shooting of Kirk, a polarizing figure with a massive online presence, best known for his viral debate videos. Discussions about the killing, the suspected shooter’s politics, and potential motives have fueled further divisions both in the United States and internationally. The suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, is expected to be formally charged this week.
