“I am going all in for Trump,” Elon says as he vows to heavily finance GOP despite last Trump drama

In the aftermath of his high-profile falling out with President Donald Trump last year, Elon Musk publicly criticized the Republican Party as a corrupt force that was “bankrupting” the United States of America.

But now, after months away from the political spotlight, the tech billionaire has signaled that he will once again commit his enormous fortune to supporting GOP politicians, this time ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

“America is toast if the radical left wins,” Musk declared on X Thursday. “They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud. Won’t be America anymore.”

Musk’s post quoted and appeared to confirm another post from a conservative influencer claiming that Musk was “going all-in” on funding Republicans this year.

The announcement follows reports from December that Musk had begun cutting “big checks” for congressional Republicans after a reconciliation dinner with Vice President J.D. Vance.

This marks a dramatic shift from Musk’s promise last July to pour his billions into a new “America Party,” which he said would break what he described as a bipartisan consensus favoring government borrowing.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk said at the time. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Those plans quickly faltered as one of the world’s most prolific over-promisers, known for failed projects and missed deadlines, ran into the practical challenges of building a new political party from scratch.

By August, The Wall Street Journal reported that Vance had persuaded Musk to abandon his third-party ambitions, leading to the cancellation of a planned call with political strategists.

On Monday, The Washington Post detailed Vance’s months-long backchannel efforts to mend relations between Trump and Musk, though the truce reportedly remains fragile.

Musk, currently the world’s richest person with an estimated fortune of $726 billion, donated over $290 million to support Trump and other Republican candidates during the 2024 election cycle.

The two men’s relationship broke down last June after Musk accused Trump of covering up his alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein, prompting Trump to threaten the revocation of all Musk’s government contracts.

In September, Musk and Trump shook hands at a memorial service for Charlie Kirk, though Trump downplayed the encounter’s significance.

Two months later, Trump was seen giving Musk a friendly pat on the arm during a dinner honoring Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who U.S. officials say personally ordered the murder of an American-resident journalist in 2018.
