During his campaign, Trump made some of his boldest guarantees — insisting he’d bring down grocery costs on “day one” of his presidency. As you’ve likely noticed, that promise hasn’t materialized.
Instead, new data indicates grocery inflation has climbed to its highest point since 2022, and major chains like Walmart have bumped up prices in response to Trump’s tariffs. So if you’re experiencing a surge in your weekly food bill, you’re far from alone.
This should honestly frustrate just about everyone, but one once-dedicated Trump backer is now going viral for a very public change of heart.
It traces back to June, when the president complained that farmers were growing upset over how his hardline immigration stance was affecting their workforce.
“Our great farmers and people in the Hotel and Leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace,” Trump said on Truth Social at the time. “That is not good…Changes are coming!”
A self-described “constitutionalist” who goes by Cynthia on X replied to his comments, saying, “I’d gladly pay higher food prices to make our country safer and to give those jobs back to Americans.”
Well, that sentiment didn’t seem to last long. Roughly three months later, she returned with a very different message:
Screenshots of her posts quickly spread on Reddit, where users had little sympathy and plenty to say.
“Hypocrisy is a requirement for the maga cult, have the grocery list you voted for cupcake!” one commenter wrote.
Others noted a particular section of her new post that appears aimed at fellow conservatives.
“I love how she’s so certain that conservatives will pretend prices are low that she need to actually say ‘let’s not bullshit ourselves.’ Never let them gaslight you into thinking they don’t know they’re full of shit,” another Redditor said.
And many, unsurprisingly, couldn’t resist throwing her use of the word “gladly” right back at her.
