Steve Bannon says “f—— government is lying” and Trump misled the public on Charlie Kirk shooting

Even though the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing has been arrested — and reportedly even confessed during a Discord group chat — that has not prevented MAGA commentators from pushing conspiracy theories that accuse President Donald Trump’s administration of concealing the full story.

Bulwark journalist Will Sommer noted on Monday that the right-wing media ecosystem was being “pulled apart” by speculation over how the FBI has managed the case. Over the weekend, far-right host Michael Savage floated the idea that alleged gunman Tyler Robinson was being used as a scapegoat, questioning the government’s explanation that Robinson disassembled the firearm after the murder, leapt from a rooftop, then reassembled it before discarding it. (A firearms expert told NewsNation that with certain “after-market accessories,” it was in fact possible for someone to disassemble the weapon quickly.)

“Something is wrong with this whole f—— picture,” Savage said. “We are not hearing or seeing reality … We’re supposed to believe a guy is on the run after killing Charlie Kirk, and he pauses in the woods to reinstall a barrel. And he leaves it there for us to find, for the FBI to find?”

“I don’t believe a word of it,” he added. “I can’t take it anymore. I can’t take the bulls—. This f—— government is lying to us!”

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon voiced his own doubts during a recent episode of his War Room podcast, calling the official timeline incoherent and insisting that Americans were being “spoonfed a narrative” instead of the truth. “Charlie Kirk was executed,” Bannon tweeted. “This isn’t a ‘single murder’; it’s a conspiracy.”

Pro-Trump commentator Candace Owens also questioned whether the administration was hiding details in her most recent podcast. Owens noted that prior to his death, Kirk had become more openly critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sparking a clash with billionaire Bill Ackman, who is a major donor to pro-Israel causes. Following the killing, the Anti-Defamation League reported that multiple right-wing antisemitic social media accounts were promoting theories that Israel had some role in the murder. However, no evidence has been found linking Israel to Kirk’s death.
